Fragrances, also known as perfume, are incredibly popular and found to be in 50% of all cosmetic products out there. Many brands have their trademark scents, with some being recognisable without a label. So what’s so bad about “Fragrance”? Well, this pleasant scent name is simply a mix of “secret ingredients” and by law, companies are not required to tell consumers what’s specifically in these “blends”.
Green, clean, cosmetic companies will typically release fragrance-free products so there aren't any unknown chemicals going onto your skin.. Fragrance free means products retain their natural scent and are not masked by a fragrance blend.
A study that researched 17 brand name fragrance products discovered that 14 chemicals known to have potentially harmful effects were in their ingredients. The FDA revealed that fragrance blends are responsible for up to 30% of all allergic reactions when people who have sensitive skin use different branded products.
