The bacteria Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are the reason we are at risk of MRSA infections. Antibiotics find it a real struggle to fight them off which makes them quite a serious health risk. Like any of virus, these kind of germs will survive for shorter periods on porous surfaces (wood, clothing) compared to nonporous ones. Unfortunately, they’re able to live for days or weeks on surfaces if in the right environment to support them.
Some MRSA organisms can be found on some surfaces from two to six months if they are not washed or sterilised, yikes. If you want to keep safe especially from MRSA germs, when cleaning focus on areas and surfaces that come into contact with people’s bare skin. These surfaces include chairs, benches, gym equipment, desks and even remote controls. Make sure you spend time cleaning uncovered wounds, cuts, or boils as well. Another good form of hygiene is frequently cleaning hands to stop MRSA spreading.
In this being said, for larger areas, there is no evidence that spraying or fogging rooms or surfaces with disinfectants will prevent MRSA infections more effectively than keeping the control of cleaning on targeted areas.
